MODEL CONTEST NEWS!
New Contest Class, Contest Specifications and Two New Special Awards!
We have a new model contest class, called Equipment Set and have posted a new list of model contest rules and specifications that you can access by clicking here or going to the Contest Info link.
Thanks to our friends at Woodland Scenics we have two all-new special awards we’ll be giving out this year, along with some cool prizes to go with them. For more information, go to the Contest Info link.

Continuing our tradition this year, we’re giving model contest winners First Place
and Second Place plaques and Third Place certificates. Our award plaques are
cedar, with classy laser etching by Rich Shepard of RS Laser Kits, and you'll
receive the award the day of the event.
Our model contest includes individual models and dioramas, and this year we’re continuing a new “Mini Diorama” contest class. The day promises to be a round table bull session on all subjects involving the Northwest wood products industry, including its history, preservation, and modeling-related material.

New Honor Awards
Starting with the 2009 event we instituted two new annual honor awards. See the Photo Gallery page to learn more about this year’s recipients.
The “Dean of the Woods” award is given for outstanding service in the preservation of wood products history.
The “Memorial Award,” sponsored by Timber Times Publishing, is given in remembrance of our friends who have passed. This award is given to the model contest entry that typifies the spirit of our hobby.

Lyle Spears received the 2011 Dean of the Woods award, shown being presented to him by Lon Wall (left), co-host of the PMLC.
Lyle Spears is one of those craftsmen whose work has been an inspiration to many, if not most, of the people involved with the logging part of the model railroad hobby. At the risk of dating someone or placing anyone’s age on the line, Lyle’s writings in the mainstream hobby press, including Model Railroader and Railroad Model Craftsman, go back to the 1960s and thereabouts. It was those stories, and the photos of his glorious scratchbuilt railroad and logging equipment models, that served to kindle and fire up many a young hobbyists’ interest in model logging.
Lyle stands among the giants of the model railroad hobby, those who did so much back then with so few of the ready-to-use resources we take for granted today. We owe him a debt of gratitude for paving the way, after first clearing the brush of course, for the rest of us modelers who would one day aspire to match his standards of modeling excellence.
Previous Dean of the Woods award winners:
2010 – Merv Johnson
2009 – Glen Comstock

LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION!
We've made significant improvements to the room and contest model lighting in the Camp 18 event room, so the dimly-lit contest area is a thing of the past. You'll almost need sunglasses from now on.
Dealers: Space is very limited and our dealer tables are sold out for the 2012 event. We occasionally have cancellations so if you’d like to be “on the list” call Lon Wall at (503) 857-2800. We’re exploring options that would allow us to expand our dealer sales area and that would open up more table availability. Likewise, if you’d like to be “on the list” please let us know by phone or email us via the Contact Us form by clicking here.
All vending is strictly limited to logging-related items, and will be available on a first-reserved, first-served basis
Meals are available at the Camp 18 Restaurant, and they’re darn good, too! Breakfast starts around 7 am and is served until 2 pm, lunch starts at 11 am, and dinner selections are served starting at 5 pm. Be sure to check out the famous Camp 18 cinnamon rolls – they’re huge and delicious!
